It is that time of year again! If you bought a house in 2021, congratulating!! But it’s time to file your homestead exemption if you have not done so already.
What is a homestead exemption?
Every person who has legal or equitable title to real property in the state of Florida and who resides thereon and in good faith makes it her or her permanent home is eligible to receive a homestead exemption of up to $50,000. The first $25,000 applies to all property taxes.
Can we get a layman’s terms?
I know that is a lot of words. It really breaks down to the State of Florida offers some tax benefits and protections for citizens’ primary residences. The catch is you have to file with your county before March 1st to qualify.
